AquaCure Diary: Third Week, Loving Gluten-Free Diet

My AquaCure experiment has 7 days left.  I am at the end of my third week of drinking glasses of water each day with positive words written on them. To read my past posts, see Week 1 and Week 2 .

Today, I want to emphasize what a benefit it has been to go on a non-gluten diet.  I must admit, going on this type of food plan was the last thought in my head.  But guidance while on my AquaCure experiment led me to this opportunity, and I said “Why not?”

I didn’t expect to like it — being off pizza, toast, noodles, flour tortillas didn’t sound inviting– but within a few days of starting the food plan I felt the benefits, even though a friend told me her holistic doctor said it takes 2-3 months to realize the full effect.

What I have experienced was no mood swings or energy peaks and valleys, a clearness of thought, loss of about 9 lbs, I don’t have uncontrollable urges to food binge, and a lower blood pressure and cholesterol.  This non-gluten food plan has been a blessing that I plan to continue.

Did you know that 1 in 7 people have an intolerance to gluten, a protein in wheat, spelt, rye, barley, oats. Gluten intolerance is the inability to digest or break down gluten.  This causes problems with digesting vitamins and minerals and this brings about an inflammation in the small intestines that is related to illnesses like:

  • According to NaturalNews.com, eating foods containing gluten can lead to rheumatoid arthritis, a disease characterized by inflammation and pain in the joint, and serious conditions such as diabetes and intestinal cancer.
  • ln an article titled Gluten Attacks the Brain and Damages the Nervous System, it says “Approximately 10 percent of people with Celiac disease [that many gluten intolerant people have] develop neurologic symptoms, according to the Center for Peripheral Neuropathy.” And this causes unexplained dizziness to numbness in the hands and feet.
  • The Nutrition Research Center warns that if you have skin conditions or chronic health problems that won’t go away, you should serious consider getting off gluten.

Some very prominent people are on no gluten diets. Here’s an article from TheCelebrityCafe.com called “Top Ten Gluten-Free Celebrities that include: Zooey Deschanel, Victoria Beckham, Gwyneth Paltrow, Jenny McCarthy, Elisabeth Hasselbeck, and Chelsea Clinton among others.  I understand Oprah Winfrey is also gluten-free.

AquaCure Diary: Second Week, a Positive Shift

This is the end of the second week on my AquaCure experiment, where I drink glasses of water each day with positive words written on them.

In my last post, I talked about the glasses of water giving me a positive focus while repeating affirmations like:

I fill my body with love and gratitude for life and joy.

I thank my body for serving me well over the years, for protecting me, and keeping me healthy.  

I ask the water to clear out any impurities in my body, mind, and soul. 

I have a body that is strong, with normal cells that grow healthier everyday.

Thank you universe for guiding me to take good care of myself.

This week, I want to talk about a shift I’m seeing in my body and energy. A friend told me about how she has started on a non-gluten diet — which at its core means no wheat.  She explained that she has had skin rashes and allergies, so she went to a holistic doctor who suggested this course of action.

As she spoke, my mind wandered to a time about 3 years ago, when I thought about going on this type of food plan.  I suspected that I might have a problem with gluten, and even explored the idea a little by subscribing to the Gluten Free Club, a website that sent me emails with tips and recipes.  But I never tried it.  I ignored that guidance.

That is until now, because when I learned about my friend, I decided to get off my butt and give up wheat products.  I felt like intuition had knocked twice, and I know that if you don’t listen it knocks harder each time, so I paid attention.  For the past week, I’ve had no toast, french bread, sandwiches, flour tortillas, croutons, chips, spaghetti or pizza, and I’m doing just fine.

Now that I see this list of foods — it hit me that these wheat products are the usual staples of obese people who appear on the Biggest Loser television program.  Reality Check!  Maybe there is something to limiting gluten products, not only for rashes and allergies, but also obesity?

How do I feel after no gluten for a week?  My ravishing hunger for fast foods and all things fattening has diminished and I’m feeling more in control, the weight started dropping at a fast pace (at about a pound a day), and I’m not riding the energy roller coaster, instead I’m taking a leisurely drive.

While I haven’t fully committed to this regime, I must say that not eating bread feels right, and I’m starting to find equally satisfying alternatives like a corn tortilla instead of flour, and a grocery cashier told me that quinoa spaghetti noodles are just as good, if not better, than wheat.

So, I’m going to continue to follow my food guidance to see where it leads me.  It feels like a life shift is happening?  Thank you water-glass Gods!

AquaCure Diary: First Week, Subtle Changes

It was about a week ago that I started my AquaCure experiment, where for one month I plan on drinking water out of a glass that has positive words written on the outside.

I came up with the idea to do this experiment to improve my health, after seeing Masuro Emoto‘s test of rice and photographs of water crystals that form beautiful crystals to harmonious words like “Love,” and “Gratitude,” and ugly shapes to negative words like “Hitler” and “I hate you.”

Below, is a book that Emoto wrote on “The Healing Power of Water.”

This week I was guided to read a self-help book that I mentioned in my post AquaCure Diary – My Healing Experiment, titled “Why Don’t I do the Things I know are Good for Me?”   The book was both refreshing and enlightening as it went to the heart of my issue “self-care.”  Quotes that stood out were:
  • Sometimes we do just the opposite of what we know to be in our own best interests.  We overeat and under exercise; we spend every last nickel; we fall in love with bad boys and marry inappropriate men.  We accumulate too much stuff, procrastinate and fritter away time, neglect our bodies, mismanage our money, and bail out on ourselves in countless ways.
  • Our self-care behavior is often not based on rationality – it’s based on instincts and emotions.  If we feel anxious and fearful, we know that spending time mediating, taking a along walk, or calling a friend would be good self-care, but instead we reach for ice cream or candy bar to soothe ourselves.
  • Our rational thoughts may tell us what would be good for us, but our fatigue and emotions – the need for immediate stress relief or comfort – override our rationality.
  • Allowing short-term or immediate concerns to out-weigh our long-term self-interest is probably the single biggest reason we often don’t do what we know is good for us. You are not alone – millions of us do the same thing.
  • In terms of doing what we know is good for us, using addictive substances or engaging in addictive processes like shopping are the antithesis of good self-care.  The problem is, even when we come out of our denial, we can’t quit even if we desperately want to.  We’re hooked.
  • If you wait until we feel like it[develop self-care], we might never learn new behaviors and habits.  So we must go to the gym, even if we’re tired.  We can choose a salad from the menu, even if we’d rather have a pizza.   Acting in our own best interest often means “faking it until we make it.”

I can’t quantify yet what effects my experiment has had on my life because the changes have been subtle.  I am having less aches and pains in the morning, I have lost a few pounds, a rash on left foot that I’ve had for months has disappeared, and my energy is slowly returning.

I can also say that it’s nice to have a focus like the water glass.  When I fill the glass with water, hold it between my two hands as I utter affirming words, in my mind’s eye I see the molecules changing to heal my body.  Out of this focus comes a peaceful energy that’s almost like meditating.  It may even be what Eckhart Tolle calls being in the NOW.

When you surrender to what is and so become fully present, the past ceases to have any power. You do not need it anymore. Presence is the key. Now is the key.
